Successful ramp-up: REICHHART responsible for two new logistics locations in Thuringia and Hesse

Gilching near Munich – Since the beginning of the year, REICHHART Logistik GmbH is in charge of two locations of a globally operating automotive group. The logistics service includes assembly operations as well as JIS deliveries to the nearby production sites.

As an experienced logistics service provider in the automotive sector, REICHHART is able to optimally contribute its core competence to the locations. In addition to more than 50 years of expertise in the field of contract and transport logistics, the in-house IT competence and the proprietary logistics software motus also come into play. Both companies have opted for a long-term partnership by awarding a 3-year and 6-year contract respectively.

Scope of services: component assembly, sequencing and tyre/wheel assembly

Since the beginning of the year, REICHHART has been providing two individual service packages in the area of sequencing and assembly at the new locations. On the one hand, the logistics service provider will in future be responsible for the assembly and sequential provision of five subassemblies, including the car manufacturer's headlining, tailgate, cooling module and centre console. As part of the contract, the company's own motus software solution will also be used to process around 30,000 vehicle data records per day. In Thuringia, the logistics provider also ensures the onward transport of the components to the nearby plant as well as the supply and disposal of the production lines via tugger train concept.

On the other hand, REICHHART provides logistical services in the field of tyre/wheel assembly at the new location in Hesse with a production-synchronised provision of several hundred wheel sets per day. From goods receipt to high-tech assembly in sequence to automated goods issue with subsequent JIS delivery to production for three different vehicle types. In addition, all warehouse processes are digitally controlled and optimised in real time by motus.

Flexibility, professionalism and high IT competence win over client

The decisive factor for winning the contract was above all the individually tailored logistics concept and the high degree of flexibility that REICHHART was able to guarantee for the duration of the contract. At the same time, the client was convinced by the high level of digitisation expertise and the associated professionalism of the in-house IT solution motus with regard to the complexity of the requirements set.

"We are pleased that both locations were successfully taken over in just a few weeks and that ongoing operations were ensured at all times," says Peter Lowet, who as Head of Strategic Business Development and Sales is responsible for the implementation of new customers. David Nickel, Head of Contract Logistics, adds: "Our many years of logistical experience and the high degree of flexibility have proven particularly valuable here. Thanks to the dedicated cooperation of our interdisciplinary team of logisticians, software developers, project managers and the support of our technical advisors, we were thus able to ensure a smooth service launch despite a tight lead time."
